New Office and Laboratory Building – D4, Berlin

The former production site of Schering AG in Berlin-Charlottenburg has undergone fundamental restructuring during recent years. "Schering" no longer exists, and now a modern research and technology site is being built here with ideal transport links thanks to its direct proximity to Jungfernheide underground and suburban railway station.

Companies such as Zeiss Meditec AG, Fresenius, the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment and many others are already creating a multi-faceted and sustainable use.

The planning and realisation of the office and laboratory building by IDEAL Lebensversicherung a.G. should be seen as one of the next major steps of development on the way to the overall completion of the site.

The replacement of a large, windowless pharmaceutical production building with a light-flooded, diversely structured and staggered building with large inner courtyards, many loggias and terraces clearly shows the new self-image of the location and the expectations of the future users.

In future, the building will offer space for innovative work and research landscapes and will play a significant role in shaping the image of its surroundings,

The elegant structure, which is clearly structured with three building heads along Max-Dohrn-Strasse, appears individualised and rhythmic, not least due to the two-storey loggias, which are also planted with greenery. The large glass surfaces are framed by a precisely planned metal façade.
