Berlin

The design is for a three - seven story high apartment building formed as a u-shaped court yard block. The existing court yard buildings are replaced by a three story high new building that follows the shape of the former court yard. South facing attractive housing cubes of a loose arrangement are sitting on top of the three story building element creating terraces and loggias in the spaces between. The calm façade of the u-shaped base building made of faced brickwork comes alive by its random play of deep reveal window areas which forms a belt around the base building. These recesses are forming loggias in the upper levels. The stringency of the arrangement disappears above the three story base block. The loose arrangement creates a smooth depth effect and dynamic.
